The University awards the Bachelor of Science degree in General Family and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis in Child, Family and Social Services upon the successful completion of the selected curriculum and the requirements of the university and the College of Education. A minimum grade of C is required in ENGL 101, 102; MATH 101, and for all non GER courses. Core courses (FACS 131, 334, 448, 461, 464 and 495) must be completed at Nicholls State University. The General Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum prepares graduates for employment in community institutions and/or agencies working with children and families or to pursue a graduate degree in Social Work Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling and other course/subject-matter related fields.
The department offers graduate-level programs in school counseling, psychological counseling, and school psychology. Additional information about these programs may be found in the Graduate Studies section of this Catalog.
Eighteen hours of coursework with a minimum grade of C in each course is required for a minor. Minors available and course requirements are as follows:
ADDICTIVE BEHAVIORS: FACS 131, 334, 448, 461, 464, 471, NURS 307, and SOCI 387. These courses should meet the coursework requirements of the state for certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor.
FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES: FACS 131, 334, 461, 464, PSYC 204 and PSYC 301.
