Incorporating Black History Month Events into Your Courses

Consider incorporating these events into your course by providing extra credit or making attendance part of an assignment

A few ways students can “show you” they attended

  1. Students can take a selfie at the event or with their screen showing the event
  2. You can create a discussion board or written assignment where students reflect on the event they attended
  3. You can hold small group or whole class discussions in which students can discuss something they learned or a question they have after attending the presentation

Other ways you can incorporate black history month into your courses is you can highlight black contributors to your field or have students find and present on black contributors to your field.

A terrific resource to use is the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture
