When: December 9th, 8:30 – Noon
Where: Ellender Library

GIFTS Overview:
The CTE is hosting its first in-person faculty development conference since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic called Great Ideas For Teaching Students (GIFTS) on December 9th from 830AM – Noon on campus.
We will be providing 2-4 sessions based on how you all rank the sessions when you register (see session descriptions below). Session topic selection is based on the past two years of faculty needs assessment survey data.
In addition to providing 2-4 45-minute sessions we want to have time for faculty to share out the innovative activities, assessments, advising and engagement methods we are using in our own class. The purpose of this session is to provide an opportunity for community building and idea sharing amongst faculty and staff across campus.
Session Descriptions:
Best practices in Moodle Shell organizations. Nicole Cotten will provide an overview of various Moodle Shell layouts, best practices in displaying information in our Moodle Shell and provide an opportunity for faculty to peer review each other’s course shells.
Publishing Curriculum and Education Research. A panel discussion of faculty who have successfully published their curriculum, classroom activities and/or educational research will present how they identify the journals and opportunities for publication. Additionally, a list of journals that accept these types of articles will be presented.
Life RAFTS. A moodle page to build student community within a department and provide a repository of important information that promotes student retention and success. The site has all department majors enrolled and provides information on a range of topics from how to pay tuition and fees to exhibition calls for entries, and beyond.
Innovative Syllabus design. Designing a syllabus with graphics or creating living syllabi that can be updated in real-time through google docs and other applications.
Stocking stuffers: Faculty and staff can sign up to provide a casual 5-minute, 3-slide presentation. If you sign up to provide a presentation, instructions and slides will be sent to you prior to Thanksgiving break.
