Ochsner Health at the Nicholls Nursing Career Fair

Nursing Career Job Fair

THIBODAUX, La. – The Department of Nursing, in conjunction with Career Services, hosted a Nursing Career Job Fair on the campus of Nicholls State University on Monday, August 23, 2021. The Nursing-exclusive job fair held each semester provides the opportunity for our current and future graduates to connect with potential employers. Hospitals, health-care groups and other health-care providers from across the state spent the morning visiting with and recruiting our nursing students. It is a day for where students and hospital recruiters learn each other’s interests and needs.

Dr. Raquel Engolio, Department Head for Nursing stated, “Choosing an entry level nursing job is an important moment. Ensuring that the students have an opportunity to meet with potential employers for career planning is a valuable experience.” The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports about 194,500 openings for registered nurses are projected each year, on average, over the decade. The Typical Entry-Level Education is the Bachelor’s degree.

THIBODAUX, La. – On September 10, 2021, the Nicholls State University Department of Nursing Xi Zeta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing received Sigma’s Chapter Key Award. It is the third consecutive achievement of this prestigious honor for the Nicholls Xi Zeta Chapter. The Chapter Key Award was established in 1991 and this Honor focuses on leadership, the quality of research efforts, and the merit of education provided. According to Alaina Daigle, BSN Program Coordinator and Sigma Chapter President, “The significant commitment of the Nursing department was the major key which led to winning this award.” Mrs. Daigle said that despite the pandemic, or many other challenges faced by Nicholls these past months, the department remained focused and dedicated to their students and the program itself. She added that faculty participation in presentations across the state, and their involvement in community service helped to build a strong standing of the Nursing Program and Xi Zeta Chapter in meeting the criteria for the Sigma Chapter Key Award.  Congratulations to Xi Zeta on a job well done!
