The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program is to prepare students for successful careers in criminal justice and related fields by providing a comprehensive, interdisciplinary education grounded in theory, research, ethics, and professional practice. The program addresses the current and emerging law enforcement and security needs of the bayou and coastal region through the study of the six core content areas recommended by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS): Administration of Justice, Corrections, Criminological Theory, Law Adjudication, Law Enforcement, and Research and Analytic Methods. By fostering diversity, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and applied learning, the program equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to serve effectively in a rapidly evolving criminal justice environment.

The program places a strong emphasis on coastal, maritime, and homeland security issues, reflecting the unique workforce needs of the bayou and coastal region. Designed with workforce advancement in mind, the curriculum provides a seamless pathway for students transferring with an Associate Degree to complete the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice by entering at the junior level. Students beginning the college experience as freshmen may complete foundation courses in general education and criminal justice in preparation for the main program ahead.
