Bio:

Dr. Mary Kathryn Rodrigue Gastinel, B.S., University of Alabama; M.Ed., University of New Orleans; Ph.D., University of New Orleans: Dr. Gastinel holds membership with the following professional organizations, Louisiana Counseling Association, American Counseling Association, and American Psychosocial Oncology Society. Dr. Gastinel is currently licensed with the Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners as a Licensed Professional Counselor.  Dr. Gastinel holds certifications with the National Board of Certified Counselors as a National Certified Counselor, a Telemental Health Certification, and an Oncology Certification for her work in psychosocial oncology as a licensed professional counselor and mental health consultant. Dr. Gastinel has been licensed as an LPC with the State of Louisiana since 2010. In order to maintain licensure in the State of Louisiana, Dr. Gastinel must participate in 40 clock hours of continuing education in a two year cycle. Maintaining licensure since 2010 supports Dr. Gastinel’s professional development and renewal activities related to counseling.

With regard to professional service and advocacy in counseling, Dr. Gastinel has engaged in advocacy presentations and workshops in her local community and received recognition with the Solaris Award from Family Roads of Greater Baton Rouge in 2017. Additionally, from 2012 until the present, Dr. Gastinel continues to provide counseling services in a private practice setting, in addition to her academic appointment with Nicholls State University. As Dr. Gastinel’s vitae indicates, she has publications and presentations which further support her development/renewal activities as well as research and scholarly activity in counseling commensurate with her faculty role.
