Bio:

I am a faculty member in the Master’s of Counseling program in the College of Education.  I teach graduate students and supervise their training and internships. I also advise a number of students on classes to take and possible internship sites.

What are some interesting facts about yourself?  “I am the third generation of my family to have the honor of serving Nicholls State University! My grandfather, George “Gee” Mitchell, came to Nicholls in 1950 and helped to establish the athletics department. My mother, Angela Hammerli, loved Nicholls so much that she taught Dance and Health for 42 years!  I too love the Bayou Community… I did my Master’s at Nicholls State and benefitted greatly from the experience. I made personal and professional connections that brought me to Spain (where I learned Spanish), France, Italy, and even Bahrain. Although I have left the area many times, and most recently spent 12 years working as a school counselor in Jefferson Parish, I have always been lucky enough to find my way back home again.”

Complete one of the following statements: “My dream job other than teaching at Nicholls would be…” -OR- “My future career aspirations include…” “My dream job would be to be a soccer coach by day, and a writer by night! My dad actually started the first youth soccer team in Thibodaux, which was my older brother, Nathaniel Hawthorne’s team. Hint, my dad also taught English Literature if you can guess the poet I was named after? So I grew up with a great appreciation for reading (Whitman) and sports.  I have been helping current students and administration to establish a Men’s Club Soccer Team at Nicholls so that has been great!”

Answer one of the following questions: If you were to win the lottery, what would you do with the winnings? -OR- If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? “I love to travel and have made so many great friends from different parts of the world that I could spend a whole years going around to visit them all! Also, my grandmother was from Sicily so it would be great to go back and visit family again there (of course enjoy the wonderful food too!).”
