Nicholls State University Email and myNicholls
First Time Login Instructions

Welcome to Nicholls State University! You have two separate accounts to set up:

  1. Nicholls Email (Gmail) — for official messages from the University
  2. myNicholls — your one-stop dashboard for Banner, Canvas, the Housing portal, and more

1. Set up your Nicholls Email

Nicholls State University uses Google Workspace (Gmail) as its official email platform.

  1. Go to gmail.com (opens Google’s sign-in page).
  2. Enter your full Nicholls email address:
    • Students: looks like ctillou1@nicholls.edu
    • Faculty/Staff: looks like colonel.tillou@nicholls.edu
  3. Select the Next button.
  4. Enter your password. You can find your initial password on your acceptance letter.
  5. Select the Next button again.
  6. Enroll in Two-Step Verification when prompted. If you are not prompted to enroll in the Google Two-Step Verification, follow these directions to do so: Turn on 2-Step Verification – Google Account Help
    1. This is required for all Google Workspace accounts.
  7. Once verification is complete, select the Google Apps icon (a 3-by-3 grid of dots in the top-right corner, labeled “Google apps”), then choose Gmail to open your inbox.

2. Set up your myNicholls Account

myNicholls is your single sign-on portal. Log in once, and you’re automatically signed into Banner, Canvas, the Housing Portal, and other tools.

Step 1: Reset Your myNicholls Password

 
  1. Go to my.nicholls.edu.
  2. Enter your myNichollsID@nicholls.edu and select Next.
  3. Select the link labeled “Forgot my password”, located below the password box.
  4. Your username should already be filled in. Complete the captcha, then select Next.
  5. Verify your identity. Your only option is will be an alternate email address (your Nicholls email address), shown partially hidden (for example, ct*****@nicholls.edu). A verification code will be sent there
  6. Enter the code and select Next.
  7. You can now create a new password.

Step 2: Login to myNicholls

 

  1. Return to my.nicholls.edu.
  2. Log in using your myNichollsID@nicholls.edu and the new password you just created.

Step 3: Set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for myNicholls

You’ll be asked to secure your account using the Microsoft Authenticator app.

On your smartphone

 

    1. Download Microsoft Authenticator from the App Store or Google Play.
    2. Open the app, accept the privacy notice, and select Continue.
    3. Allow notifications and access to your camera.
    4. If prompted to add an account, choose Work or school account. (You can also select the + icon in the top-right corner to add an account manually.)
    5. Select Scan QR code.

Back at the myNicholls login screen

 

    1. Select Next until a QR code appears on screen.
    2. Use the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone to scan the QR code.
    3. Select Next.
    4. A number will appear on the login screen. Enter that same number into the Microsoft Authenticator and confirm it.
    5. Select Next.
    6. A success message will appear. Select Done.

You’re all set up! You can now access your Nicholls email and myNicholls dashboard.
