Welcome to Petroleum Engineering Technology and Safety Management (PETSM). Nicholls State University has been educating upstream oil and gas professionals for over 40 years, in unique Petroleum Services and Safety Technology degree programs. We pride ourselves in providing quality higher education opportunities to both traditional and non-traditional working students. This particularly benefits non-traditional students in the oil and gas industry of the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) operations, national oil and gas entities and potential for international students resident in the United States. Our graduates are now employed around the world in management
and leadership positions in the upstream sector including many who have worked and continue to work for major oil and gas companies.
The PETSM degree programs are the only known programs of their kind, uniquely scheduling courses to accommodate rotational work schedules including 7-days-on, 7-days-off and the 14-days-on, 14-days-off. For students who do not follow the traditional route of pursuing a degree directly after high school, jobs in the Gulf Coast oil and gas industry are attractive options. The pay is good and employee demand is high. However, many workers find it hard to advance without a degree.
The addition of the online Associate of Science degree in Safety Technology allows students, who cannot travel to the Nicholls State University campus, an opportunity to continue their education and pursue a career as a safety professional.
*Students in the Petroleum Engineering and Safety Management major will be assessed a $150.00 PETSM Program Fee each term, in addition to Nicholls Online tuition, beginning in Fall
2015.
