Kristen Callais

Kristen Callais has been on Nicholls faculty as an adjunct instructor since 2015. Prior to teaching, she worked in the field of Social Work in several capacities such as crisis counseling, substance abuse counseling, intergenerational instruction, school social work, food bank administration, and facilitating court-ordered parenting and anger management courses.
Callais shares her love of community with her students by incorporating community-based learning in most of her courses. She believes that all communities possess invaluable educational assets and resources that can assist educators in enhancing learning experiences for students.

In the summer of 2019, Callais attended the Inside Out Prison Exchange training institute at Lewis University and Stateville Maximum Security Prison where she received her certification as an Inside Out facilitator. In partnership with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, Callais facilitated Louisiana’s first Inside Out course at the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in the Spring semester of 2020.

In addition to teaching, Mrs. Callais is a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused and neglected children and she serves on the Nicholls State University Alumni Federation and America Red Cross board of directors. She is a member of the Thibodaux Service League and Rotary International. In 2014, Callais was nominated and selected as one of the Best of Lafourche “40 under 40.” She is also a graduate of the Leadership Lafourche Class of 2017.
