THIBODAUX – A Nicholls State University music major and Brazilian native took home second prize Saturday, March 8, from the Young Artists Competition in Jackson, Miss.
Christiano Rodrigues, a freshman violinist in Nicholls’ strings program, was honored for his performance of Wieniawski’s Concerto in D minor – earning not only second prize but a chance to play with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra as well.
James Alexander, adjunct instructor of music, said Rodrigues’ honor is a first, both for Rodrigues and for the Nicholls strings program – itself in its inaugural year.
“We’re very happy that he was able to take home a prize in his first competition in the United States,” Alexander said.
