Nicholls singers to perform at Carnegie Hall

THIBODAUX – Nineteen vocalists – including active members and alumni of the Nicholls State University Concert Choir – will join other singers from around the country on Sunday, June 14, to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Slated to begin at 2 p.m., the Nicholls singers will join ensembles from Michigan, Wisconsin, Washington, Nebraska and New Jersey as they perform “Thoughts and Remembrances,” along with two shorter works, by composer and concert pianist Jackson Berkey. The New England Symphonic Ensemble will accompany the performers, while Almeda Berkey – the composer’s wife – conducts.

In addition to his accomplishments as a composer and concert pianist, Berkey is the keyboardist for Mannheim Steamroller, best known for their Christmas albums and additional recordings.

This will be the Nicholls Concert Choir’s third Carnegie Hall appearance at the invitation of Jackson Berkey. Previous performances occurred in 2005 and 2007.
