THIBODAUX – Dr. Allayne “Laynie” Barrilleaux was named interim vice president for academic affairs at Nicholls State University effective July 1, succeeding the retired Dr. Carroll Falcon.
“I am delighted to have an academic of Laynie’s caliber fill this all-important role at Nicholls,” Dr. Stephen T. Hulbert, university president, said. “The knowledge, experience and dedication she brings to her new office will serve our students quite well.”
A 28-year veteran of higher education, the Distinguished Service Professor of Management has served as assistant vice president for academic affairs at Nicholls since 2005, and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools liaison since 2002. Barrilleaux successfully led the university through its most recent regional accreditation and NCAA Division I athletics recertification.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve Nicholls at this level of administration but realize the challenges are many,” Barrilleaux said. “The environment in which Nicholls is currently operating is the most turbulent I’ve witnessed in my career. My objective in this new position is to find those silver linings in all of the turmoil and help lead Nicholls through this change so that we are stronger and better than ever.”
Barrilleaux’s academic focuses include human resource management and business communications. She has published numerous refereed journal articles throughout her career, conducted presentations at a variety of professional conferences and written several successful grants.
Barrilleaux’s community service activities include serving as a member of the board of the regional Council for a Better Louisiana, Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce and United Way for South Louisiana. She is also immediate past president of the Thibodaux Rotary Club.
She received her bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from LSU, and her master’s degree from Nicholls.
