Scholarship memorializes Nicholls student

THIBODAUX – A Nicholls State University senior who died in a car accident in fall 2009 will be memorialized, beginning in fall 2010, with a scholarship.

The Titus Charles Meads Memorial Scholarship, established by RaKeesha R. Reeves and Celeste R. Parker, friends of the deceased’s family, will be awarded to an African American male student who is classified as a graduating senior in the College of Business Administration for the fall semester during which the award is given.

The recipient will be chosen annually by the university’s scholarship committee and must have a minimum 2.75 GPA to be eligible for the one-time award, totaling $1,000.

“Titus was a strong, determined young man who served as a role model for his family and community,” Reeves said. “Celeste and I established this scholarship to help give African American males the chance to realize their dreams – a dream Titus didn’t get the chance to fulfill.”

Meads was posthumously awarded his Nicholls degree at the fall 2009 commencement.

In recognition of their generosity, Reeves and Parker will be invited to meet the scholarship recipients each fall at the President’s Scholarship Reception.
