Bio:

Dr. Angika Bulbul is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Nicholls State University. Her research focuses on optics and photonics, particularly computational imaging, digital holography, biomedical optics, quantum optics, super-resolution imaging, and advanced optical imaging systems.

Her research experience includes appointments at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Wake Forest University, and Duke University, where she has worked across biomedical optics, computational imaging, three-dimensional optical imaging and tracking, photon-counting spectroscopy, quantum optics, and laser- and fiber-based optical systems for biomedical applications. Her doctoral research focused on computational imaging, incoherent digital holography, and partial- and synthetic-aperture imaging.

A significant outcome of her research is the development of the ‘Partial Aperture Imaging System (PAIS)’, an optical imaging approach designed to achieve high spatial resolution using only a fraction of a conventional full aperture. The PAIS concept has moved beyond academic research toward commercial space applications and has been adopted by Remondo for its next-generation satellite imaging technology. Remondo is developing PAIS-enabled compact optical payloads for ultra-high-resolution Earth observation from low-Earth orbit, with the first on-orbit demonstration planned for 2027.

Dr. Bulbul’s research has resulted in peer-reviewed publications and a U.S. patent in partial-aperture imaging. In addition to research, she is actively involved in teaching, student mentorship, scientific outreach, and professional service. She is passionate about translating fundamental optical research into practical technologies while inspiring students to explore astronomy, biomedical optics, and photonics.
