Jay Udall awarded an Academic Affairs Award for Teaching Excellence sponsored by Regions Bank at the Spring 2019 University Convocation. Mr. Udall is a faculty member and current Poet Residence. He has taught a wide range of creative writing and literature courses at Nicholls. His poem “Walking Home” is featured on US Poet Laureate Tacy K. Smith’s podcast “The Slowdown.” The poem is from Mr. Udall’s most recent book Because a Fire in Our Heads, which won the 2017 XJ Kennedy Poetry Prize. Mr. Udall is the author of six poetry books.
