Ellender Memorial Library to Host Open House for Students on Tuesday

THIBODAUX, La. — Ellender Memorial Library is a hub for student success on campus. To help students get more comfortable with the facilities, librarians and staff are hosting an open house to introduce students to its services.

From 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15, students will get a tour of the library and what it has to offer. The event includes lunches provided by the Student Programming Association, trivia and games such as bingo. Prizes will also be drawn, such as journals, candy and stickers. The event will be indoors and masks are mandatory.

“Students will have the opportunity to tour the library and find out how they can best use our resources,” said Dr. Robert Stephens, Research and Instruction Librarian and Outreach Coordinator. “This is a great time for students to come and ask questions about the library, as well as find out what we have to offer.”

The event will include the following schedule:

  • 2 p.m. – Introduction & Welcome to the Event.
  • 2:15 p.m. – Tour of the Library. Due to the lack of elevator, we will be keeping the tour on the first floor.
  • 2:30 p.m. – Bingo on second floor, Trivia on first floor in The Brew
  • 3:15 p.m. – Tour of the Library number 2
  • 3:45 p.m. – Closing drawing

Specific activities will include meeting the librarians and learning about items they can check out or view in the library including laptops, microphones, some course textbooks and anatomical models for biology classes.

Students will also learn about how the library can help with research, including government documents, newspapers, magazines and a wealth of history in Archives and Special Collections.
