Running out of water while in a study session will now be a thing of the past.
Thanks to community funding through Nicholls 2024 Give-N-Day, students in the Ellender Memorial Library can access two filtered and chilled water bottle filling stations. Future filters will also be worked into Give-n-Day goals, so the filter supply will be maintained.
“I think more and more students are coming to campus with their own water bottles rather than going to vending machines to pay a lot of money for bottles,” said Library Director Brandy Burbante. “Our building is open the most hours on campus, so we now have this as another benefit to coming to the library. I am thankful for donors giving us this opportunity to improve our building.”
Through Give-N-Day, the library raised $3,825, which was enough to purchase the two Elkay water filling stations, two filters and reserves for future filters. The stations are located on the second floor between the restrooms and Access Services entrance and third floor near the restrooms and Government Information Department.
“There have been a lot of sad moments watching people try to fill up their big water jugs with the water fountain,” said Andrew Barbier, Access Services Librarian and Give-N-Day lead. “A big push for doing this now, with our new flooring, new floor plan, and other new infrastructure happening in the renovation, we want to rejuvenate the library.”
Thanks to hitting the funding goals, Barbier has dyed his hair blue to start the new semester, and he will also get inspiration from the Elkay blueprints for his pledge for achieving the highest goal, a tattoo.
Barbier says if you have any suggestions for future Give-N-Day projects, to email him at andrew.barbier@nicholls.edu.
