Nicholls School of Fine Arts to host free recital

THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University School of Fine Arts will present a recital of violin, cello and piano music at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Thibodaux.

Dennis Parker, professor of cello at Louisiana State University, will be the featured artist. Parker has performed worldwide to critical acclaim and has recorded numerous works. A graduate of Yale University as well as a former member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, he will be joined by two Nicholls faculty members – Dr. Luciana Soares, pianist and assistant professor of music, and violinist James Alexander, adjunct instructor of music.

Soares is well known as a chamber musician and scholar, performing regularly in Brazil and in the U.S. Her recording “Brasileira: Piano Music by Brazilian Women” is available on the Centaur label.

Alexander leads the university’s new string program. He has performed and given master classes in many countries and is a recipient of the Premier Prix from the Guildhall School of Music in England, as well as the Diploma of Excellence from the Romanian government.

St. John’s Episcopal Church is located at 718 Jackson St. Admission is free.
