Nicholls inducts standouts into Hall of Fame

THIBODAUX – Thirteen students were named to Nicholls State University’s Hall of Fame at the Nicholls Alumni Federation’s annual Awards for Excellence reception. This is the highest honor bestowed upon a student of Nicholls.

hall-of-fame.jpgThe 2008 Hall of Fame honorees are Jonathan Lance Babin of Raceland, Kali Ann Boudreaux of Raceland, Lauren Elise Cenac of Houma, Katie Elizabeth Giroir of Thibodaux, Anthony Marino of Thibodaux, Lindsay Boyd Mayet of Lockport, Marie Victoria McChargue of Gray, Shane Prejean of Houma, Elizabeth Ann Sanders of Thibodaux, Kristina Lynne Trosclair of Thibodaux, David Paul Vicknair of Thibodaux, Kristie Elizabeth Waguespack of Thibodaux and Joe Anthony Wallace of Thibodaux.

Babin, a graduating biology senior with a concentration in pre-medical technology, was vice president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity; a member the 2007 Homecoming Court, the Biology Society and the Interfraternity Council; and a student worker for the Tutorial and Academic Enhancement Center. He also served as a Nicholls Ambassador and was recently accepted into the Tulane Early Acceptance program.

Boudreaux, a graduating English education senior, served as vice president and “R U Ready Campaign” co-chair of Student Educators and Leaders; president of Sigma Tau Delta English honor society; and secretary of Lafourche Parish Youth Council. She was recognized in the 2006 and 2007 editions of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.”

Cenac, a graduating English senior, served as co-editor of the student magazine Mosaic; copy editor for The Nicholls Worth; a member of the English Society as well as the Phi Eta Sigma, Sigma Tau Delta and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies; and vice president of the Environmental Club. She is also vice president of both the Students of Language Club and the Environmental Club, as well as a member of Alpha Lambda Delta national honor society and the International Film Club.

Giroir, a Fall 2007 graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in government, served as vice president of Pi Sigma Alpha political science honors society; Supreme Court Justice of the Student Government Association; and was a performer in the Nicholls play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” She also worked in the state attorney general’s office as an intern for the Louisiana Center for Women & Government.

Marino, a Summer 2007 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in biological science, was Nicholls’ Male Student-Athlete of the Year for the past two years. The four-year member of the Nicholls baseball team received the 2007-2008 F.L. McDonald Scholarship for Graduate School and was recognized in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 editions of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.”

Mayet, a graduating biology senior with a concentration in pre-medical technology, served as vice president of membership and academics chair for Delta Zeta Sorority; special events committee chair for the Student Programming Association; and member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma national honor societies. She is the recipient of a TOPS Honors Scholarship, the Distinguished Freshman Scholarship and the Alan and Helena Dusenbury Scholarship.

McChargue, a Spring 2007 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, served as public relations chair and vice president of new member education for Delta Zeta Sorority; a member of the Order of Omega honorary Greek society; and group leader for the New Student Orientation Program. She was also recognized in the 2005 and 2006 editions of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.”

Prejean, a graduating biology senior with a concentration in pre-medical technology, served as executive council treasurer for Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity; treasurer and public relations officer for the Pre-Professional Medical Association; and counselor and assistant director of Free Enterprise Week. He was named king of the 2007 Homecoming Court and recognized in the 2006 and 2007 editions of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.”

Sanders, a graduating English senior with a concentration in creative writing, served as co-editor of the student magazine Mosaic; delegate and secretary for the Honors Council; member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Tau Delta honor societies; and was named to the President’s List every semester of her Nicholls education. She was also recognized in the 2007 edition of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.”

Trosclair, a graduating accounting senior, served as president of the Beta Alpha Psi honor society; a volunteer tutor for the accounting tutoring lab; and secretary and publicity team leader for the Accounting Club. She is the recipient of the State Board of Supervisors Academic Scholarship and the TOPS Scholarship, and she has been named to the President’s List multiple times.

Vicknair, a Fall 2007 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in general business – pre-law concentration – has served Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity in numerous roles, including president, recruitment chair, philanthropy chair, convention representative and ambassador at the fraternity’s leadership school. He also served as a student worker in the Office of Admissions and a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.

Waguespack, a graduating communicative disorders senior, served the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority as parliamentarian, philanthropy chair, education director and study hall coordinator. She also worked in the Office of Admissions, was a sweetheart of the Kappa Alpha Order and served as a group leader in the new student orientation program. Waguespack is a recipient of a TOPS scholarship.

Wallace, a graduating general studies senior and a cheerleader, served as president of the Gay Straight Alliance; parish council member for the St. Thomas Aquinas Center Campus Ministry; respite event coordinator for the Family Services Center; and a member of the Nicholls Players, the university’s acting troupe. Wallace has been named to the Honor Roll, the Dean’s List and the President’s List.
