Nicholls to host Alzheimer’s conference

THIBODAUX – The Louisiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will conduct its annual Dementia Care Conference — themed “A Meeting of the Minds” — on Jan. 30 at Nicholls State University. The event is slated for 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Bollinger Memorial Student Union.

Attendees will learn about the latest care practices and research related to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias — with a focus on staff development.

David Troxel, internationally known for his writing and teaching in the fields of Alzheimer’s disease and long-term care, is scheduled as keynote speaker. He has co-authored four influential books on Alzheimer’s care as well as numerous articles relating to staff development and training.

Early registration is $60 for professional continuing education unit attendees, $50 for those receiving a certificate of attendance, $40 for non-continuing education unit attendees and $20 for students with identification.

Continuing education credits are available for social workers and nursing home administrators. Moreover, fees may be waived for non-continuing education unit attendees by requesting a “scholarship.”
