Women leaders to be inducted into hall of fame

THIBODAUX – The Louisiana Center for Women and Government, headquartered at Nicholls State University, will honor four Louisiana women for their outstanding public service on Saturday, March 28, at a luncheon at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside.

The hall of fame ceremony will feature the induction of Rosemary Ewing of Quitman; Phyllis Mayo of Baton Rouge; Anne Milling of New Orleans; and LilyB Moskal of Lafayette.

rosemary21A 2007 Louisiana Heroine Award recipient from the Louisiana Association of Non-Profit Organizations, Ewing was the first female board chairman of Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services Inc. She also served as chair of Lincoln Parish American Heart Walk; president of the Louisiana Legislative Wives Auxiliary; board member of the Louisiana Council on Child Abuse; and advisory board member for the New Orleans Museum of Art.

Phyllis MayoA Louisiana resident since the late 1960s and the first woman elected to the Alexandria City Council, Mayo served on the state central and executive committees of the Louisiana Democratic Party. During the 1990s she was named to the board of directors for Utility Communicators International and later chaired the statewide Task Force on Retirement Development. More recently, she served as special assistant to the governor on women’s policy, organizing the first Gathering of Louisiana Women Leaders.

anne-milling-photoMilling’s leadership credentials and experience include several civic positions, corporate board positions and awards. She is past president of the Junior League of New Orleans Inc. and past chair of the Loyola University Board of Trustees. Currently a board member of the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Emeril Lagasse Foundation – as well as an advisory board member for Entergy New Orleans – Millings’s various awards include the Catholic Foundation’s Pope John Paul II Award and The Times-Picayune Loving Cup.

lily-bVia her company Success Seminars, LilyB Moskal has for several years conducted motivational leadership workshops for women and men interested in public service. Her extensive list of speaking clients include Toastmaster International, Chevron, the National Association of Realtors and National Federation of Republican Women. A certified speaking professional from the National Speakers Association, Moskal began her community work after World War II with the American Red Cross.

Cherry F MayIn addition to the hall of fame inductions, the Louisiana Center for Women and Government will present its Blue Ribbon Award to Cherry Fisher May, publisher, Independent Publishing Group.

mildredfossierbwThe center will also present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Mildred Fossier, the first female director serving the City of New Orleans and political activist.

National political consultants and New Orleans residents Mary Matalin and James Carville are scheduled as keynote speakers.

Tickets to the awards ceremony are $50 each and include a coffee and cash bar at 10:30 a.m., followed by the noon luncheon and awards ceremony. For reservations, contact the center at (985) 448-4770.
