THIBODAUX – Officials from Shell Exploration and Production presented a check for $23,236.80 to the Nicholls State University Foundation on Thursday, March 19.
The petroleum services safety technology program in the Department of Applied Sciences will use the funds to purchase industrial hygiene monitoring equipment – including an indoor air quality monitor, multi-gas detection meter and sound level meter – all of which will be integrated into course modules.
“We’re here to support the Nicholls program in any way we can,” said Reggie Sexton, human resources operations excellence leader for Shell. “We want to fill the pipeline with qualified people.”
Founded in 1973, the petroleum services program at Nicholls is unique in the Gulf Coast region in that it allows offshore employees to continue working a seven-on/seven-off or 14-on/14-off shift schedule while earning degrees as full or part-time students.
To date, the program has produced more than 1,000 graduates who have joined the petroleum industry in various managerial and technical roles.
