Nicholls campers to perform ‘Beauty and the Beast, Jr.’

THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University Performing Arts Camp will present Walt Disney’s junior version of Beauty and the Beast on Friday, June 26; Saturday, June 27; and Sunday, June 28, in Talbot Theater on the Nicholls campus. Titled Beauty and the Beast, Jr., the production has been tailored for performance by middle to junior high students.

Nearly 70 youths, ages 7 to 15 – representing nearly two dozen schools from the Bayou Region and beyond – will participate in the production following a 21-day camp that includes theater instruction and intense rehearsal. Approximately half of the 2009 campers are veterans of previous summers, and many are younger brothers and sisters of previous camp attendees.

The 75-minute show is suitable for the entire family. Show times are slated for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday – and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available at the door for $7 per person, half an hour before show time.

The Performing Arts Camp, overseen by Brandie Toups, director of continuing education, is one of several summer programs conducted at Nicholls for area children. For additional information, call (985) 448-4444 or go to www.nicholls.edu/camps.
