THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University generates approximately 4,600 jobs throughout the state, according to statistics compiled by the University of Louisiana System – the university’s governing body.
Of the total, more than 2,800 are non-university, full-time equivalent positions that support university expenditures such as construction, health care and food services. The remainder includes approximately 500 campus contractors, 390 faculty members, 480 staff members and 470 student workers.
Jobs generated by Nicholls are the result of dollars invested in Nicholls, which multiply by a factor of eight as they cycle through the state’s economy. The total annual impact is $274 million.
“We are proud that our university has become such a major contributor to our state’s economy,” Dr. Stephen T. Hulbert, university president, said. “Money invested in Nicholls supports our central commitment, which of course is the education of tomorrow’s workforce. It is indeed gratifying to know that as we fulfill that commitment, we are also contributing to today’s workforce – 4,600 jobs that otherwise wouldn’t exist.”
