Nicholls students excel at national sales competition

THIBODAUX – Two students from Nicholls State University, both pursuing a master’s degree in business, earned champion standing at the 2010 National Collegiate Sales Competition, hosted by Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga.

Theunette Antill of Krugersdorp, South Africa, and Nicholls football player Jordan Ogletree of Houston, Texas, won the Team Sales Call and Negotiation round of the contest, held March 5-8.

The NCSC is the world’s largest sales competition, pitting top sales students in a test of live role-play sales call challenges. Each sales call is broadcast live to locations on campus where college faculty from across the country and recruiters from sponsoring companies participate as judges and evaluate each student’s performance.

Fortune 500 recruiters routinely attend the competition to seek out the top sales students in the nation. The 2010 competition attracted more than 30 companies – as well as 350 students representing 61 universities.

“I am extremely proud of how our students performed,” said Dr. Chuck Viosca, NCSC faculty coach, assistant dean of the College of Business Administration and associate professor of marketing. “This competition has always been very important because participating companies want to hire Nicholls students as a result of their presentations.”

Viosca attended the competition with Antill, Ogletree and two undergraduate participants – senior Ryan Donegan of Thibodaux, who serves as president of the Student Government Association, and senior Rachel Spreen of Houston, Texas, who plays volleyball for Nicholls.
