Lisa Ling to headline Nicholls women’s center event in Alaska

THIBODAUX – The 2010 National Women’s Leadership Summit, sponsored by the Louisiana Center for Women and Government at Nicholls State University, will open Thursday, June 3, at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska.

Ling

Headlining the three-day event is keynote speaker Lisa Ling, journalist, host of National Geographic’s “Explorer” and special correspondent for the “Oprah Winfrey Show” and CNN.

Ling launched her journalism career as a correspondent for Channel One News, covering the civil war in Afghanistan at 21 years old. She later joined ABC’s “The View,” which won its first daytime Emmy during her stint. Currently a special correspondent for CNN’s “Planet in Peril” series and contributing editor for USA Today’s USA Weekend magazine, Ling is slated to have her own series on the new channel OWN: the Oprah Winfrey Network.

The National Women’s Leadership Summit is an annual, bipartisan effort that allows women leaders and opinion-makers from local, state and federal levels – as well as the private sector – to participate in roundtable discussions on national issues. This year’s focus is energy and the environment.

Approximately 150 women leaders from across the nation are expected to participate, including honorary co-chairs U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Republican of Alaska, and U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, Democrat of Washington.
