Nicholls offers post-oil spill financial assistance

THIBODAUX – Students at Nicholls State University whose personal finances have significantly changed as a result of the recent environmental disaster in the Gulf of Mexico may qualify for need-based financial aid.

Those who have not qualified for such aid in the past are encouraged to apply, along with those who already receive assistance. The latter may be eligible for additional aid if their current award is less than the maximum amount allowed.

To begin the application process, students must complete the appropriate form, accessible at www.nicholls.edu/finaid/oil. Applicants must then contact the Office of Financial Aid at (985) 448-4048 to schedule a meeting with a counselor.

“We are closely monitoring the ongoing oil disaster in the Gulf as well as its impact on a large percentage of the students we serve,” Courtney Cassard, director of enrollment services, said. “Nicholls is committed to helping our students and their families get through this catastrophe and accomplish their academic goals.”

The Nicholls Counseling Center is also available for oil spill-related assistance. For information, go to www.nicholls.edu/counseling.
