THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University Camerata, a student string ensemble, will perform a concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off, La.
Free and open to the public, the performance will feature guest conductor Crispin Ward of University College, Chichester, in West Sussex, England, and solo pianist Dr. Luciana Soares, associate professor of music at Nicholls. The ensemble will perform works by Purcell, Elgar, Haydn and Schostakovich.
A small chamber orchestra featuring students playing violin, viola, cello, bass and harpsichord, the Nicholls Camerata was formed in 2010 under the direction of violinist James Alexander, faculty head of the string program, who performs with the group.
