Nicholls to host 40 agencies at inaugural public safety expo

Public invited to family-friendly event

THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University will host the first-ever Bayou Region Public Safety Expo on Saturday April 16, in the John L. Guidry Stadium parking area. Free and open to the public, the five-hour, family-friendly event will begin at 10 a.m. with more than 40 public safety agencies offering hands-on education and interaction.

“This is a great example of the constructive partnerships built by Nicholls, its police department and the region’s public safety professionals,” Craig Jaccuzzo, director of university police, said. “I especially want to thank Captain Darrin Naquin of Troop C, Louisiana State Police, for spearheading this event. I am excited that we have the opportunity to work with these men and women, and I hope the public will take the time and come see what each agency offers their community.”

Visitors of all ages are encouraged to attend the expo and see mobile command posts, helicopters, SWAT equipment, K-9 units, motorcycles, patrol units, ambulances, fire engines, patrol boats and more. Activities during the expo include a blood drive, health screenings, K-9 demonstrations, interactive training, safety demonstrations and child safety seat inspections. Food and drinks will be available.

Participating agencies include area sheriff’s offices, police departments, fire departments, district attorney’s offices, state law enforcement organizations and emergency management agencies.
