Nicholls scholarship memorializes victim of drunk driving

The Terrebonne Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) has established the Lindsey Robert Fontenot Memorial Scholarship at Nicholls State University, in honor of a Gray resident who was killed by a drunk driver on July 2, 2010.

With an initial donation of $1,000 from ADAC, the scholarship will be awarded in two installments of $500 each to a single recipient. Eligibility criteria include performing 10 hours of service learning or community service with ADAC; demonstrating financial need; and declaring a major that would readily lead to advocacy against drinking and driving, including but not limited to education, nursing, allied health and sociology. Pictured from left are Alicia Toups, director of ADAC; Jessica Toms, Lindsey Robert’s fiancé at the time of his passing; Ava and Michael Fontenot, Lindsey Robert’s parents; and Dr. David Boudreaux, vice president for institutional advancement at Nicholls.
