THIBODAUX –Nicholls State University awarded 562 degrees on Saturday, Dec. 10, to students who completed coursework in the summer and fall semesters of 2011. The ceremony marked Nicholls’ 89th Commencement.
Degrees were conferred and presented by Dr. Stephen T. Hulbert, university president, in Stopher Gymnasium.

Graduates are listed by geographical origin of record, degree and major, with academic honors in baccalaureate curricula included. Summa cum laude indicates the student earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 or higher. Magna cum laude graduates, those with a GPA of 3.7 to 3.899, and cum laude honorees, those earning a GPA between 3.5 and 3.699, are also designated.
Nine baccalaureate graduates earned degrees with the highest academic honors – summa cum laude. They include Dillon A. Baronne of Raceland; Jessi L. Boudwin of Houma; Alissa M. Callais of Galliano; Brittany A. Champagne of Houma; Hanh H. Chung of Houma; Aaron T. Hubbell of Gramercy; Brad D. LeBoeuf of Larose; Kaleb M. Plaisance of Lockport; and Meryl A. Waguespack of Vacherie. Three of these students – Boudwin, Plaisance and Waguespack – graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA, earning the President’s Medal of Honor.
Nicholls bestowed an honorary Doctor of Commerce to Chef John Folse, namesake of the university’s culinary institute. Folse also delivered the keynote address.
