Jones named Dean of Education at Nicholls

THIBODAUX – Dr. Leslie Jones, professor and associate dean of the College of Education at Nicholls State University, has officially been named dean, pending approval of the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.

“Dr. Jones brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of education to the position,” Dr. Laynie Barrilleaux, vice president for academic affairs, said. “During her years in the K-12 system, she transitioned from mathematics teacher to school principal, allowing her to gain tremendous ties to the K-12 community itself, which in turn ensures the continued success of the college. She is also the author of several books and articles related to education, and she has served in a consulting capacity. Nicholls is very fortunate to have her join our team of academic administrators.”

Jones said she is “blessed to have been a student, faculty member, coordinator and now the leader of the College of Education. With the help of the faculty and staff and collaboration with school districts and additional pertinent stakeholders, we look forward to moving the college from ‘good to great.’ We will make this university proud and in doing so provide our customers (the degree candidates) with the best educational services possible.”

An alumna of Nicholls and LSU, Jones will succeed Dr. Steve Welsh, interim dean of the college.

“I am extremely grateful to Dr. Welsh for his service as dean and relentless drive to continue to move the college forward during this interim period,” Barrilleaux said. “The College of Education can only grow and continue to improve its quality programs with the dedication of its faculty and staff.”
