THIBODAUX – The faculty of the Nicholls State University Department of Music will present the sixth annual Nocturne – a recital in support of music scholarships – on Friday, May 4, in the Mary M. Danos Theater (formerly Talbot Theater) on the university campus.

“Each year, we model ‘Nocturne’ after the traditional 19th century music soiree,” Dr. Luciana Soares, associate professor of music, said. “At these parties, people would assemble in the evening around the piano at a private house to listen to music. Our concert has the same feel, featuring piano, voice, violin, clarinet, saxophone, trombone and harpsichord. Attendees are in for a real treat.”

The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., during which guests can participate in a silent auction. The recital will begin at 7:30 p.m., showcasing the talents of the Nicholls music faculty. Final bids on silent auction items will be placed during the recital’s intermission – and upon the program’s conclusion, guests will enjoy a coffee and dessert reception. Cocktail attire is requested for the event.

“The faculty, staff and students of the Department of Music are gratified to be able to offer the public so many free performances throughout the year,” Soares said. “This event, quite frankly, plays a huge role in making the rest of our events possible. We will always be grateful for the generosity of our supporters.”

Individual tickets are available for $50 each, which includes the concert and both receptions. Several levels of sponsorship are available as well. Guests should R.S.V.P. no later than Friday, April 20, by calling (985) 448-4600. Sponsorship inquiries should be directed to the same number.

Checks should be made payable to the Nicholls State University Foundation and mailed to the Nicholls Department of Music, P.O. Box 2017, Thibodaux, La., 70310.
