Nicholls students get married in campus Quad

THIBODAUX – A few hours after Nicholls State University’s Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 9, several student veterans returned to the campus quadrangle to witness the wedding of Teresina Hueso, nursing junior from San Diego, and Jake Hebert, U.S. Marine Corps veteran and management junior from Bayou Pigeon. Pastor Hilton Johns, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and history freshman from Callahan, Florida, performed the ceremony, and serving as the couple’s witnesses were two Nicholls staffers — Brandy Burbante (far left), library specialist, and Gilberto Burbante (far right), U.S. Marine Corps veteran and coordinator of veterans services. A small reception was held in the new Nicholls Veterans Lounge. “We made history; we’ll always be remembered as the veteran who got married by a veteran here at Nicholls. That’ll probably never happen again here,” Hueso said. “I love the Nicholls campus and the beautiful trees, and since I’m not from here, Nicholls has become a big part of my life. The student veteran community has become my family.”
