Nicholls Ranked Among Top Nursing Schools in Nation

THIBODAUX — The Department of Nursing at Nicholls State University was recently ranked one of the top nursing programs in the nation by CollegeAtlas.org.

The website’s “A-List” rankings for 2014 measured Nicholls against nursing programs from across the country. Nicholls ranked 12th, coming in second out of eight Louisiana schools that made the list. The list ranked 100 schools nationwide and gathered data on 1,400 different programs.

“We’re proud to be ranked among the top schools in the country for our nursing program,” said Dr. Sue Westbrook, dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health. “Nicholls’ reputation in the Bayou Region has long been strong — eight out of 10 nurses in the region are Nicholls grads. This ranking is a testament to the nursing faculty’s commitment to excellence and the university administration’s support.”

The CollegeAtlas.org “A-List” rankings are unique in that they focus not just on academic achievement, but also on real-world factors including affordability, acceptance rate and student body size.

Contributing to Nicholls’ high ranking was the fact that the university’s nursing program ranks in the top 10 percent for Board Exam passing rates, the number of nurses who go on to pass licensure exams. Nicholls also boasts affordable tuition, a small student body and a nearly 92 percent acceptance rate, the highest for ranked Louisiana schools.
