THIBODAUX, La. — Nicholls State University received a nearly 1-acre land donation along Bayou Lafourche from the Jaron Land Co. with plans to beautify the campus and bayou-side in the future.
The batture totals 0.93 acres along La. 1 and connects from the trail and extends to the land in front of the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute.
“The university has the property up along La. 1 so it was natural that they should have this piece as well,” said Ronald Adams and Jake Giardina, the owners of Jaron Land Co. “Nicholls has done such a good job with their property and this will allow them to enhance their presence on the bayou. Nicholls is a substantial part of this community and this donation is a way for us to support them any way we can.”
President Dr. Bruce Murphy said the university is partnering with the local nonprofit, Friends of Bayou Lafourche, to complete beautification projects along the bayou. Ideas include marking different trees with signage, extending the trail and building an outdoor classroom.
“We’ve got some great ideas to enhance that portion of campus which is like our front porch overlooking the bayou,” said Dr. Murphy. “The idea is to enhance the image of the bayou and the university. This generous donation gives us the opportunity to complete the perimeter of our campus.”
