THIBODAUX, La. — Did you know that sunlight can affect oil spills? Nicholls State University chemistry invites you to attend a seminar discussing the topic on Friday.
University of New Orleans research professor Dr. Matthew Tarr will give the seminar titled, “How Sunlight Affects Oil Spills,” from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 14 in Beauregard 104.
“Many Nicholls chemistry graduates will become career researchers, and seminars like these give them a hint of what it is like to do this type of work,” said Dr. Chad Young, associate professor and department head of physical sciences at Nicholls. “Faculty can learn about work ongoing at other universities. And for the community, they can learn about the exciting discoveries that occur at Louisiana universities every day.”
The seminar is sponsored by the department of physical sciences and the Louisiana Board of Regents’ Speaking of Science program. The program sends high-profile speakers from around the state to share the exciting research ongoing in the state’s universities.
Dr. Tarr, who received his bachelor’s and master’s at Emory University and his doctorate from the Georgia Institute of Technology, researches analytical, environmental and materials chemistry. His focus is on materials for applications in energy, environment and health.
The seminar is free and open to the public.
