NEW ORLEANS, La — Nicholls Geomatics students, joined by Dr. Balaji Ramachandran, coordinator of Geomatics and Contractors Educational Trust Fund Endowed Professor of applied sciences, and Dr. Terry Dantin, professor emeritus, celebrated the New Orleans Tricentennial at an event hosted by the Surveyors Historical Society and District One of the Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors at Louis Armstrong Park.

Held on Friday, Sept. 14, the students reenacted important events in the city’s history, including the proclamation by LaSalle claiming Louisiana for France, an 18th-century ceremony known as “beat of the bounds,” and a demonstration of the ancient French surveying instrument le compass.
