Nicholls Concert Choir invites you to “Crossroads and Rivers”

THIBODAUX, La. — The Nicholls State University Concert Choir invites you to contemplate one of the great metaphors in life during its performance next week under the guidance of new choral director, Dr. John St. Marie.

The performance, titled “Crossroads and Rivers,” includes selections from Carmina Burana, a set of contemporary songs inspired by roads and rivers and even some selections from choral pop music. The music explores the idea of coming to a crossroads when you must choose a path that could completely change everything.

“Listening to live concerts is one of those magical ways that we make a connection with each other and with the world around us,” said Dr. St. Marie. “Participating in a live performance can deepen the emotions that music elicits and give us the opportunity to share that experience with others, live and in person.”

The performance, free and open to the public, is set for 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, in the Mary and Al Danos Theater.

Dr. St. Marie, originally from Louisiana, is the new choral director.  and was the director of choirs from 2010 until 2017 at the internationally acclaimed arts program of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. Dr. St. Marie’s vocal talents can be heard on 11 popular movie soundtracks, several commercials and also popular video games.

“Working with the vocalists and my colleagues in the Nicholls Department of Music has been a wonderful way to reconnect with my roots here in Louisiana,” Dr. St. Marie said. “Everyone is kind, genuine and motivated. What a blessing to be a part of the music department here at Nicholls during such an exciting time in the University’s history.”
