Dr. Johnathan Hugh Broome, assistant teaching professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Southern Mississippi, has spearheaded the revamping of the chemistry program at Southern Miss. Nicholls Chemistry department head Dr. Chad Young hopes his students, as well as members of the community, can learn from the practices developed by Dr. Broome.
“Dr. Broome is an excellent teacher, scholar and speaker,” said Dr. Chad Young, Nicholls Chemistry department head. “Our faculty are devoted to the best education, and this seminar will help to equip them in that endeavor.”
Since implementation two years ago at Southern Miss, the rate of students receiving Ds, Fs and incompletes, or who have withdrawn from the course has been reduced by more than 15 percent.
Dr. Broome will present “Rejuvenating General Chemistry Instruction: A Methodical, Evidence-Based Approach” from noon to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, in Beauregard 165. The seminar is free and open to the public.
