THIBODAUX, La. — This Saturday, Nicholls State University alumni are invited to gather with family and old friends to share an officially licensed Nicholls beer as they tailgate for the first home football game of the year.

Brewed by Bayou Teche Brewing and distributed by Buquet Distributing, the Colonels Retreat Lager will be available at 12:30 p.m. in the Alumni Federation tailgate outside of Guidry Stadium.

Named for the former popular Thibodaux hangout, Colonels Retreat is a smooth, crisp American lager perfect for tailgating or for your next crawfish boil, barbecue or fish fry.

Proceeds will support Nicholls State University and the Nicholls Alumni Federation. A portion of the proceeds will also be dedicated to student alcohol abuse prevention.

“This was an exciting project for Nicholls, to partner with Bayou Teche Brewing and Buquet Distributing for a cause that we care so much about,” said Jerad David, Nicholls director of Marketing and Communications. “With contributions from faculty, staff, students, alumni and the community, Colonels Retreat Lager captures the spirit of Nicholls State University.”

Colonels Retreat Lager is a true community effort, with key input and feedback from alumni, faculty, staff and students. Marketing students helped develop the business plan for the beer, while graphic design students crafted the logo.

“I’m so proud of the final product because this has truly been a campus community and alumni effort,” said Katherine Mabile, alumni director. “From the style of beer to the design of the logo to the rollout of the product, there has been significant community feedback along the way. That’s why this beer means so much to me. Because when I share one with friends, I know the heart of our university went into crafting it.”

The beer will be distributed by Buquet Distributing, sold at local stores and on tap at local restaurants. Colonels Retreat apparel will be offered in the coming months.

Founded in 2009 by three brothers on their family farm in Arnaudville, Bayou Teche Brewery is an award-winning brewery that produces more than 10 varieties of craft beer, with each styled to fit the Louisiana lifestyle. Supporters of higher education, they have also crafted university-branded beers for sister institutions McNeese State University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

“It’s been a pleasure working with the Buquet Family and Buquet Distributing to release Colonels Retreat Lager, and help raise funds for Nicholls State University,” said Karlos Knott, owner and president of Bayou Teche Brewing. “The team at Nicholls State University has been great to work with.”

Buquet Distributing first began distributing across South Louisiana in 1953. Now, the Houma-based company supplies more than 850 retail outlets and 150 fairs and festivals, while also distributing more than 250 brands of beer, wine, spirits and nonalcoholic beverages across the Bayou Region.
