Nicholls Marketing Students to Compete in World Cup of Sales

THIBODAUX, La. — Two Nicholls State University marketing students will compete in a competition dubbed, “The World Cup of Sales” this November.

Hosted by Florida State University, the International Collegiate Sales Competition (ICSC) will be Nov. 11-14. Due to COVID-19, the competition will be online. Nicholls is one of 32 schools to compete in the sales management case competition.

A sales management simulation pre-event was held April 1-27. The following students qualified:

  • Kelsey Curole, a senior marketing major from Luling,
  • Luke Cheramie, a senior marketing major from Luling,

The virtual sales management case will be a three-round tournament-style competition that ties into the ICSC. A team of two competitors will receive a sales management case study and present their solution. In the second round, they will have to defend the feasibility and cost of their solution. In the final round, they will face a challenge regarding the implementation of their solution. First, second and third place winners and their faculty coaches will receive cash prizes.

In the pre-event, the students acted as regional sales managers making quarterly decisions over a 2-year period. Students recruited salespeople, assigned them to territories, compensated their workforce, set time management policies and priced products. Schools received points for cumulative profits and market share earned during the simulation.

In addition to the competitions, the ICSC will also offer a virtual career fair.

The College of Business Administration includes a state-of-the-art sales lab located in Powell Hall and every spring hosts the Bayou Sales Challenge, which attracts schools from all over the Southeast. The Nicholls competitive sales team has developed a reputation for success in competitions across the U.S. going against larger universities. Earlier this year, the program was named one of the best in North America by the Sales Education Foundation.
