Nicholls, Lafourche Schools Sign Admissions MOU

THIBODAUX, La. — Today, Nicholls State University and the Lafourche Parish School District finalized an agreement ensuring high school graduates admission to Nicholls.

Nicholls President Dr. Jay Clune and Lafourche Parish Schools Superintendent Jarrod Martin signed the agreement on the front lawn of the President’s Residence on the Nicholls campus.

Both leaders highlighted how the partnership will expand access for area high school students to the local university.

“Beginning today, our students will now know what thresholds they have to meet to help them pursue college after high school,” Martin said. “Today is a win for us because our counselors can give very clear guidance to kids who are wanting to pursue college. I want to thank Dr. Clune for being gracious enough to work with us.”

Effective immediately, Nicholls will provide a clear path for students who intend to pursue a college degree. The criteria includes at least a 2.0 core GPA, a 21 composite ACT or 2.35 GPA and a minimum ACT score of 19 in math and 18 in English. Qualified high school seniors must apply to the university by January 5 to be considered for scholarships. Students can apply at www.nicholls.edu/admission/apply/

“This agreement does so much for Nicholls and Lafourche Parish by cementing an already great relationship with the school district,” Dr. Clune said. “This is our home. A majority of our students come from Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes, which makes this so important. For these local graduates, this is their home, too, and we want them to stay.”

Nicholls and the LPSB have a history of mutually beneficial partnerships. The university has long provided access to higher education to the more than 1,500 high school students enrolled at three Lafourche Parish high schools: Central Lafourche, South Lafourche and Thiboduax. As a result, nearly one-quarter of the students enrolled at Nicholls are Lafourche Parish residents.

Interested Lafourche Parish high school students can apply for free using the code La4ourcheColonel in their application.
