THIBODAUX, La. — Nicholls State University has launched a Center for Teaching Excellence to advance faculty professional development on campus.

Located in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences building, the center’s goal is to assist in the education, retention and graduation of students. The center will host workshops promoting research into the practice of teaching, and provide consultations to help improve learning assessment in students.

Dr. Aimee Hollander, assistant professor of teacher education, is the director of the center.

“The Center for Teaching Excellence will provide a physical space and learning community for faculty to hone their teaching craft. This will improve teaching and learning in their classrooms,” Dr. Hollander said. “All programming provided by the center must include some aspect for inclusive pedagogy. This means professors will always be learning how to create a more equitable curriculum.”

Dr. Hollander said the center’s goals are to promote inclusive teaching methods and improve course design. She also wants to encourage the development of innovative teaching strategies.

“We want faculty to strive to become the best instructors possible,” Dr. Hollander said. “Our vision of the center is to help faculty achieve their professional goals through learning communities, guest speakers and workshops.”

Beginning in the Spring, the center will create faculty fellowships within each department. Fellows will be faculty who will lead workshops and consultations with their peers. For more information visit, https://www.nicholls.edu/cte/
