THIBODAUX, La. — Nicholls State University’s online political science program earned a top 10 ranking from Study.com.
Study.com ranked Nicholls No. 9 in the nation and the top school in Louisiana. This is the second organization that has ranked Nicholls in the top 10 during the past year.
“The curriculum for the online degree is identical to the on-campus degree,” said Dr. David Whitney, social sciences department head. “It is an especially attractive option for those who work or have familial obligations that prevent them from attending physical classes on a regular basis.”
The online resource lists a highlight of the program being its accelerated eight-week courses to help students. The degree is also strong in the fields of political theory, American government, international relations and the rate of graduates going on to law school. Professors in the program have earned their doctorate degrees and have extensive teaching and research experience.
Criteria included U.S. Department of Education data, affordability, accessibility, academic offerings, extracurricular activities and available resources.
A political science degree can lead to a job in education, government, business, public relations and journalism. Graduates can also pursue advanced degrees in law, public policy or business.
“Political science is a good pathway to a variety of careers,” Dr. Whitney said. “Law school is our most common placement, but we have placed students in the state police, secret service, graduate school, business, journalism, politics, and consulting, among others. Because we emphasize critical thinking and provide a strong foundation in the liberal arts, our students are well prepared to thrive in a rapidly changing world.”
