Nicholls Fights Food Insecurity with Nicholls CAN food drive

THIBODAUX, La. — Today, the Nicholls State University community has begun collecting non-perishable food items to donate to local food banks.

The annual food drive, Nicholls CAN, is a campus-wide movement that will continue through Nov. 9th. Collections will then be donated to area food banks the following week.

In Louisiana, more than 783,000 people, including more than 258,000 children, struggle with hunger, according to a 2018 study by Loyola University. One in six children lives in a household without consistent access to food.

Since 2012, Nicholls Can has collected and donated nearly 130,000 items.

At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, the Nicholls Student Government Association will sponsor a Can Wars competition, where student organizations can create art using cans. The most creative and the most school spirit designs will each be awarded a $250 prize.

For information on how you can donate, contact Michael Williams at michael.williams@nicholls.edu.
