Nicholls Hosting Colonel Exhibition of Bands

THIBODAUX, La. — Nicholls State University is set to host the Colonel Exhibition of Bands featuring the Nicholls Wind Ensemble, the Nicholls Jazz Ensemble and the Pride of Nicholls Marching Band. The event will take place on Thursday, Sep 22, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. in the Stopher Gym.

Cost of admission is $5 for kids 12 and under and Nicholls students with a Nicholls ID; general admission is $10. The event will be narrated by Mike Davis.

“The bands at Nicholls are doing great things by representing the arts at a high level and energizing the community at our sporting events and on campus,” said Director of Athletic Bands and Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Ben Robichaux, “The Colonel Exhibition is an event where the community can get a snapshot of all that the Nicholls Bands are doing in one exciting night!”

The Nicholls Wind Ensemble is the premiere concert band on campus. It is an auditioned group made up of both music majors and majors from throughout the university. It performs at three concerts throughout the year as well as at both academic commencements. The ensemble often performs with soloists and commissioned compositions. The group meets three days a week in both the fall and spring semesters.

The Nicholls Jazz ensemble is the premier jazz group at Nicholls State University. The ensemble performs a wide variety of jazz and contemporary music. The Ensemble meets year round on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3 p.m. Performances include numerous concerts, both on and off campus. Membership is by audition.

The Pride of Nicholls Marching Band performs at all home football games, selected away games and in exhibition at selected marching festivals during the fall semester. The ensemble is open to all university students with previous marching band experience. Nicholls offers a competitive service award for students that meet the requirements. At the Exhibition, the Pride of Nicholls will be playing stand toons that are played at the football games.

Saturday, Sep. 24, 2022, the Pride of Nicholls will also host a High School day for any high school band students that are interested in participating. The cost is $15, and it includes lunch in the Nicholls cafeteria, a t-shirt and free admission to the Nicholls football game against Jacksonville State University at 3 p.m. in John L. Guidry Stadium. Payments are to be made in cash the day of at 9:30 a.m. registration. Participants will learn and rehearse the Nicholls Fight Song and three of the Pride of Nicholls’ Football Cheers. The Nicholls Department of Music hosts a variety of ensembles that perform at athletic events and at concerts both on and off campus. It is not necessary to be a music major to join the bands.
