Nicholls gears for a Halloween Homecoming

THIBODAUX – Themed “Nightmare in Colonel Country,” Homecoming Week at Nicholls State University is slated to kick off Sunday, Oct. 26.“Many changes have taken place at Nicholls this year, and Homecoming is no exception,” said Debbie Raziano, chair of the Homecoming Committee and director of alumni affairs. “We have an awesome lineup of activities for the Nicholls community. Check out our event times and dates to make Homecoming 2008 part of your plans.”

2:00 P.M.

Paint the Campus and Town Red

The entire community is encouraged to support the Colonels by painting windows and doors red and displaying “Geaux Colonels” signs – available at the Office of Alumni Affairs and area Chamber of Commerce offices. Call (985) 448-4111 for additional information.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

12:00 P.M.

A pep rally, sponsored by the Student Programming Association, the Student Government Association, the Pride of Nicholls Marching Band and the Nicholls Cheerleaders, will be held at the Bollinger Memorial Student Union. The Homecoming Court will be announced at this time.

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

2:00 P.M.

Sponsored by Student Programming Association, a pirogue race will be held on the bayou side of the university. Call (985) 448-4533 for additional information.

Thursday, October 30, 2008

5:00 P.M.

The “Nightmare in Colonel Country” Parade will begin at the John L. Guidry Stadium and proceed from Audubon to Menard; Menard to St. Charles to Seventh; Seventh to Bayou Lane; Bayou Lane to Menard; Menard to Audubon; and Audubon to the John L. Guidry Stadium.

10:00 P.M.

An NAACP Party will be held in the Bollinger Memorial Student Union, following the Homecoming Parade.

Friday, October 31, 2008

8:00 A.M.

The Bayou Country Club will host the Homecoming Golf Tournament, a four-person scramble on 18 holes with a shotgun start. At $100 per golfer, the fee includes a gift, a golf cart, the green fee, coffee, donuts, refreshments and food on the course – as well as two tickets to the Homecoming Brunch and Reception. 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M.

The public is invited to a family “Trick or Treating” party in the quadrangle, sponsored by the Office of Greek Life.

Saturday, November 1, 2008

9:00-11:00 A.M.

The College of Business Administration will host its Alumni Association Homecoming Social at the College of Business Administration Ponder Room and Courtyard on the Nicholls campus. Business administration students, alumni and invited guests are asked to RSVP to (985) 448-4172 – or sue.adams@www.nicholls.edu – by Wednesday, Oct. 29.

11:00 A.M.

The Homecoming Brunch and Reception will commence under a massive tent on the west side of the Guidry Stadium parking lot. During this time, the class of 1958 will be honored; golf tourney awards will be presented; the Homecoming Court will be introduced; and the “Outstanding Alumnus/Alumna” for each college will be announced. A pep rally with the Pride of Nicholls Band and the Nicholls Cheerleaders will highlight the event. Dues-paying alumni will receive two free tickets to the brunch, and non-dues paying alumni will be admitted at $10 per person. Membership in the Nicholls Alumni Federation is $25 per person or $40 for joint membership. Brunch tickets must be ordered by Oct. 24. For additional information, contact (985) 448-4111.

1:00 P.M.

The Colonels football team will take on the University of Central Arkansas Bears in the John L. Guidry Stadium. Reserved seats are available at $15 per person until Oct. 15.
