Golf tourney to support Nicholls lecture series

THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University is seeking sponsors and golfers for the 18th annual Bonnie J. Bourg Lecture Series Golf Tournament, scheduled for Sunday, March 15, at the Bayou Country Club in Thibodaux.

Sponsorships available for the golf tournament range from the Caddie level at $25 to Tournament Marshal level at $500 or more. Donors will be recognized, depending on their sponsorship level, with a plaque, a sign presentation on the course, a program listing, tournament entry for golfers and passes to the lunch and awards program.

Golfers are also needed for the tournament – a four-person scramble with a shotgun start. Gift certificates will be awarded for two flights for each tee time, 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Prizes will be given for the first- and second-place, closest to the line, closest to the pin and the longest drive at each tee time. Door prizes will also be awarded.

The entry fee for the tournament is $300 per team or $75 per person. One mulligan per player will also be available for $10. The fee includes green fees, cart rental and admission to the post-tournament luncheon and awards program. For more information, call (985) 448-4021 or (985) 448-4186.

Proceeds from the annual tournament are used in the spring to fund speakers for the Bonnie J. Bourg Lecture Series, named in honor of Dr. Bonnie J. Bourg, one of the original faculty members at Nicholls in 1948. During her 42-year career she served as an instructor, dean and vice president for student affairs, becoming the first woman to serve as a vice president at Nicholls.

The 2009 Lecture Series – and Women’s History Month Luncheon – will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, in LeBijou Theater on the Nicholls campus. The featured speaker will be Beth Galante, New Orleans director of Global Green USA and former New Orleans assistant district attorney.

For luncheon tickets, call (985) 448-4080 by Wednesday, March 18. The luncheon will begin after the lecture. Admission is $15.

The Lecture Series is part of the 2009 Jubilee: A Festival of the Arts and Humanities, slated for March 12 through April 23.
